Wineries and Wildlife......

After an uneventful three hour ferry ride, which was fine by Andrea's stomach, we arrived in Picton on the south island. We picked up our new rental car as the other had to be dropped off on the north island and headed to Nelson. We stayed here a few nights and saw some sights, including maybe a winery......or two.....

We also went to a neat cafe in the middle of nowwhere that had tame eels. Yes, tame eels, that you could feed raw chicken on a stick. AAGH, they crawl out of the water to grab the popsicle stick that you are holding. AAAAGGGHHH, I may have nightmares for the rest of my life, do you see how close they are to my foot!

Ok so off to Blenheim which is in the heart of the Marlborough wine region of NZ, which is famous for its sauvignon blancs. Guess what we did?

Yes we went to an aeronautical musuem (this one is for you Carolyn!) that had some of the memorilbila from the Red Barons plane, from WWI. Cool. Oh yeah while in Blenheim we did a wine tour, surprise!

We left and drove south down the coast to stop at the Ohau seal colony which is right off the highway on the coast. Tons of seals and their babies swim/crawl up a small stream (about 500m) to wean them from their mother. They end up at a beautiful waterfall where they learn to socilalize and play. No living in the parents basement until they are 40!

Ended up in Kaikoura where we went whale watching. Took a small boat out to the middle of the ocean (thank goodness is was a quiet calm day and Andrea had taken her gravol, was wearing sea bands and drinking ginger ale) to see if we could find some sperm whales. They said we might see one or two if lucky. We saw five, wow. These are the ones that flip their tails in the air as they go down. Whoa, was that amazing. We did not go to a winery today but maybe tomorrow we could find another......For those trying to comment, I think I have eased up the restrictions but if you cannot, let me know. Cheers. A & D
