These types can be very large and are called estuarine crocodiles. They can live in fresh or salt water, they are not fussy. The smaller ones that are crawling around the keepers feet are fresh water crocs, and they are not as aggressive and do not get quite as HUGE as the others.
There are signs at the creeks, that indicate there are crocodiles in the water, so don't swim!
We drove further south to Airlie Beach. This is where the Whitsunday Islands are just offshore. Captain Cook named them because he was sailing through them on Whit Sunday.
We took a day trip cruise over and did some bush whacking, some swimming, snorkelling and had a delicious BBQ on this huge sand beach. (Note for the geologists, this sand is 100% quartz and it squeaks when you walk in the dry sand, cool).
The BBQ also attracted the locals, several two foot long monitor lizards. We also saw some eagles that flew past the boat looking for a hand out which the crew gave them, as well as some turtles while snorkelling and some dolphins that swum by. Got a WiFi site so here are some photos.
