Edinburgh, Friends and a small hill!

After leaving Milton Keynes we took the train to Edinburgh for three days. This is one of my favourite Scottish cities and as a bonus we have friends here.  Our friends we met while travelling in South America and they are in between houses right now so we stayed in a small hotel just about ten steps from the Royal Mile.  Now for those who do not know Edinburgh, the Royal mile is a bit of a hill.  At one end is the Edinburgh Castle, at the other end is Holyrood Palace.  The palace is the Queen's residence when in Scotland and Edinburgh castle is on an extinct volcano.  In between these two estates are shops where you can buy whiskey, kilts, scarves and tacky tourist stuff!  Also in between the shops are some fabulous restaurants and pubs galore.  We met up with our friends and there little boy for lunch.  They picked a yummy restaurant, down a street and an alleyway or two and then upstairs away from "the Mile".

The next day we decided to do another geeky Geological pilgrimage.  This meant a stroll down the mile to Holyrood and a little walk up Arthurs seat.  Now this is a famous spot for geologists because it's where James Hutton came up with the theory of uniformitarianism, basically the present is the key to the past.  If you are not a geologist you won't care.  Now Arthurs seat is another small volcanic knob with a number of walking trails, we decided to do the medium difficulty. It only took about 45 minutes or so to get to the top but you could see Edinburgh Castle in the mist.  Now if you listened to Dwayne whine you would think we were hiking up Kilimanjaro again, big baby!  A nice stroll down, found a pub with 50 different types of rum and that finally shut him up!
