Ok so you had to know that at least once I would quote Harrison Ford! So, if you have not been, you need to go. Venice is sinking. There is no way it will not, its just a question of when. The city is old and fabulous and worth a visit. The streets do not go any particular way and quite often you end up in dead ends even if you think you are reading the map right. This is not a city for anyone who does not like to walk as there is no other way to get around unless you take a water taxi but it is not direct, trust me. There any many bridges and canals (obviously) and everything in the city is moved by boats and then by hand (via a large dolley usually). Checked one thing off the bucket list; a gondola ride in Venice. Also, highly recommended. If you do not like crowds then do NOT go. We did manage to find a nice B&B right in the heart of Venice so if you are thinking of going, ask and we can let you know. However, know that the Italians maybe great lovers and cooks, but the train system, as compared to the rest of Europe, sucks, so be prepared. Andrea
