Hvar and Korcula (yup, still coughing!)

Yet another gorgeous sunny day on the island of Hvar.  Ok, so it was raining when we woke but after our guide made some calls  (really he said he could talk to a guy who knew a guy who could deal with the weather, really!)  the weather cleared up and off we went.  We cycled out of the town of Hvar which meant a 13km uphill which gave us some breath taking views once we could breath again of course!  A ride down followed by a ride through the vineyards, uphill again of course for a light lunch though I was hungry enough to eat something not so light!  HA! .  This was followed by a fabulous wine tasting, Croatian wine is worth a try, trust me.  Wine has been produced in this region since Roman time and they know what they are doing!   A van ride back to our last night in Hvar where we had a five course meal that was amazing.

The next day our private speedboat took us to the island of Korcula where we met up with our guide.  He drove the van while we rode the length of the island on an old coast road.  This road was quiet with only about 8 cars going by us the entire time.  Did I mention it was the length of the island?  The island is 55km long by the way with four hills including one that was 5km with only 2 switchbacks!  We made it but it was some tough going and some heavy breathing!   My velike šunke ( this is Croatian for BIG HAMS) as in my big legs got me up this stupid hill.

We ended the day with a four course meal, paired with different wine at each course under a full moon.  Our guide who was not much of a drinker joined us.  See him with his wine, he does not look like a non drinker does he?

To say we both slept well that night is an understatement!  Off to Dubrovnik for our last ride and the end of our Croatian tour.  Off after that to Rome to visit with the Burrages!
