Carcassonne, Arachon, St Emilion...France..with PARS

Southern France the land of croissants, butter, medieval towns, wine and did I mention the butter? After meeting up with the newly displaced Burrages (Ann, Richard, Perri and another visitor, a friend of Perri's, Samantha (PARS) get it?) in the town of Carcassonne, we toured the medieval walled fortress town. Yet another UNESCO world heritage site(we seem to be on a tour of them). We caught a re-enactment of the good versus evil knight jousting tournament where of course good triumphed over evil! On our way back to house de Burrage we stopped to hike up to another medival fortress and then like the good geologists we are went underground to see another UNESCO heritage site. Very cool cave (which was appreciated after the morning hike) full of stalagtites and mites. We arrived back at chez Burrage in Arachon. We took a very long walk (all of 300 steps) to the beach that night. Found our way to a nice tapas restaurant and made friends with the locals! Next day off to the small town of St Emilion. Famous for its fabulous wine and its church carved right into the limestone bedrock. Did I mention this is a UNESCO site? We checked and there are 936 as of 2011. On this jaunt I think we have covered about 136 of them! We had a number of feeds of mussels cooked in butter and Dwayne and the Burrage clan enjoyed many croissants bought from the bakery. This bakery in Arachon is about a 2 minute walk from chez Burrage. We also managed to fit in a golf game, play on the beach, hike up a dune that is 125m in height, 50m wide and 3km long and drink some wine. Fabulous visit with displaced Calgarians. Off to Paris for a day and then 3 days in London before heading home for 3 weeks before the Australian adventure starts. This is soooooo much better than working.

  1. just keep rubbing it in.... the whole "not working thing" can get a bit tiresome for those of us who are slaving away! No crazy shoe-stealing tapas bar girls in sight this week. Maybe if you come back we can find them again. chez burrage is lacking in atmosphere this week. the "in-crowd" seems to have de-camped and left for sunnier climes.
